Remembering South Beach architecture, Miami, Florida

Last updated on May 20th, 2026

My husband and I spent a few days in Miami in 2006 on what was basically a two-day layover on our way to Peru and Ecuador. We spent all of our time in South Beach and I have fond memories of Christmas decorations amid palm trees, perfect sandy beaches, and a fascinating variety of people on the street. However, it is the pastel Deco hotels just off the beach that I think of most often.

  1. Love the pastels! I’ve never been but we have tentatively scheduled South Beach for next spring. Hope it happens – can’t wait!

    1. There is so much to do in Miami and South Beach these days. It’s sort of amazing. We hadn’t planned to spend time in Miami on our next pass through here, but after researching it a bit, I’m really excited. I’ll be posting new stuff after our trip. . . can’t wait to see what I find.
