There are still spots in Tulum, Mexico, where the relaxed, low-key vibe of days gone by survives.
The living is easy at Zamas in Tulum
Among the best of those old-style resorts is Zamas, which still has cabanas right on the beach.
While tempting, we chose a garden bungalow instead.
It was very private; although we did have a few local residents drop by.
(They eat bugs and are harmless. Really. We loved having them around.)
We could see the ocean through the fence and, of course, we could always hear it.
The bungalows have a couple of units in each, but we were the only ones in ours, so we had it all to ourselves!
It was a bit of heaven.
Zamas is located in the older, more developed section of the hotel zone. When we visited late in 2014 we stayed in a Jungle Garden room a short distance from the main resort.
