It is a grey, icy cold day where I am in Minnesota today, so I need a shot of tropical color. And what could be more colorful than the flock of macaws we saw at Xcaret when we visited the Mexican Yucatán last December!
Xcaret has very successful macaw breeding and reintroduction programs for both red and green macaws. There are hundreds of macaws within the park, but the park also works with other wildlife organizations to return macaws to their native habitat. Wild macaws have become extremely rare in Mexico and Xcaret’s programs have successfully reestablished wild populations of these magnificent birds.

What a wonderful set of shots. Your photography is really first-rate!! I’d love to see macaws in the wild.
Thanks, Leigh. I’d love to see them in the wild too, but they are easier to photograph at a wildlife park!
