Spending the night in a marina is like staying in a big, floating campground. It’s a different experience every night as the weather and other occupants change. Some nights will feel like a party, while others – like the evenings we were in the marina at Port Superior in late August – will be absolutely calm.
Port Superior is located near Bayfield along Lake Superior’s south shore in northern Wisconsin. Charters are available if you aren’t fortunate enough to have your own boat or a friend with one.

on a trip to Seattle once we stayed on a tug boat that had been converted to a B&B. It was great being lulled to sleep by the rocking and eating breakfast on deck. Alas, it’s no longer there…
Ohhh – it would be really cool to stay on a boat in Seattle. Too bad it’s no longer there.
Hi Cindy, I love marinas – they always look pretty and exciting to me. Sounds like your evenings spent om this marina were wonderful. Your images are stunning, especially the first one with the water reflection.
Thank you, Marisol. All I had to do to get that shot was stand up from where we were enjoying happy hour in the cockpit! It was just such a lovely evening.
We love boats and marinas and live in a town with several. My favourite walk is by the marina and every day there is something different to see. The water is different, the reflections, and when my favourite catamaran is missing I hope they haven’t left for good and will be back in a few days. I always look at it wondering what it would be like to live on board. :)
I agree, Jan, marinas are great places for a walk. They are never the same place twice! Some day I hope to live near enough to one to do that on a regular basis too. Enjoy!
In another life, I dated a guy who owned a sail boat. Loved spending the night on the boat. Thanks for linking up this week.
Back in Canada, I presume? Sounds like there is a story there, Nancie!
I love the idea of spending the night in a marina, how cool! And stunning photographs, too!:-)
Thanks, Jess. I hope you try it some time!
I’m not much for sleeping in tents, but I love sleeping in boats. It’s getting easier to find places where you can rent a boat for a night just like a hotel room. I hope you get to try it sometime!
I have never slept on a boat, but it is on my list. Love the light and reflections in your images. Beautiful.
