Sasebo Japanese Gardens, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Last updated on August 1st, 2024

There seems to be a bit of everything tucked into Albuquerque’s Bio Park, so I shouldn’t have been surprised to discover that one section houses a Japanese garden. Named for one of Albuquerque’s sister cities, the Sasebo Japanese Gardens are built around one of the largest koi ponds I’ve seen and an equally large waterfall.

The garden has only been here since 2007, but the plants have filled in beautifully and provide a shady oasis around the pond. Now that spring is here, magnolias add a splash of color.

  1. What a gorgeous park! The magnolia are starting to blossom here, and I saw some cherry blossoms yesterday. Spring has sprung (or at least it’s trying)! Thanks for linking up this week. #TPThursday

  2. What a great set of beautiful photos! We were in Albuquerque a few years ago and passed by the parl. I would have totally stopped if I knew this was inside. It’s such a tranquil setting and I love Japanese gardens.

    1. The park really has some very lovely gardens. We were there a bit early for the main gardens, but it was still a beautiful place to spend some time. . . .and Japanese gardens are always so tranquil. Thanks for stopping by.

  3. I love that Japanese gardens can be found in unlikely places. We found a red chinese bridge with cherry blossom trees in the Oamaru Public Garden in the South Island of N.Z.!
