Friends invited us out for a long weekend with them in Del Mar, California. The house is located in a leafy green neighborhood with views of the mountains on one side and the ocean on the other.
I’m not sure there is really any reason to leave the house, but there is a lot to explore in the San Diego area. . . besides, it’s such a treat to walk about under swaying palms without a sweater or jacket!

A Lingering Sunset
Even as the sky darkens, the sunset lingers above the hills of Anza Borrego State Park. Finally Scott can’t stand it anymore and pulls over to take pictures from the side of the road.
He was right. It was worth stopping. (And the car window makes a decent enough tripod.)

Downhill to the Beach (February 7, 2011)
The house where we are staying is high above the beach in Del Mar.
(View from the driveway.)
It is a pleasant walk down through the neighborhood to the city’s upscale commercial district.
You have to love a city where every restaurant seems to have a patio that includes an ocean view!
