Minnesota’s state capitol is a beauty, but it’s become a bit of a faded beauty over the years.
Maybe not quite as faded as in these pictures, but you get the idea.
Fortunately, a project is underway to restore the entire building from top to bottom – or rather, from bottom to top, as most of the work underway thus far has been in the building’s basement where walls added over the years have been removed to expose the original foundation.
Work has just begun, so there will be more pictures. . .

Your images yet again prove how beautiful that building is. I’ve seen many various images of the inside of the Capitol building. Thanks to yours I’m beginning to think I should stop in as well and take some photos as well.
Thank you for your kind words. It’s such a beautiful building, but when you stop and look you really can see where maintenance has been delayed and repairs are greatly needed. The current project will continue for three years and, during a share of that time, the public areas of the building will be off-limits. So be sure to stop in this winter and take it in one more time while you can! Then you can come back in a few years and, if all goes well, everything should be sparkling like new – which may look very different.
That was a nice tour, loved all the detailed shots…its a gorgeous building
Thank you.
The building may be in need of some repairs, but it is still beautiful. I love all the details you captured and can’t wait to see what it looks like after it’s been restored.
Thanks. It is still beautiful, but it will be even better when the missing plaster and other problems are repaired. I’ll have pictures!
what a gorgeous building! I think it’s stunning regardless 🙂
