A rainy night at Hamlet’s castle, Helsingor, Denmark

Last updated on April 11th, 2020

Helsingør is noted for Kronborg Slot a greatly expanded 15th century castle that helped maintain Danish control of shipping and trade on the Baltic Sea and the great wealth that came from the collection of Sound Dues for 400 years.

Kronborg, as Elsinore, is also where Shakespeare set Hamlet. Lane would really like to visit the castle, but our late arrival and the persistent rain seem determined to foil us. Luckily there is a scale model just outside the gate, so at least we can get a good overview of the compound before night arrives and the rain begins again in earnest.
