We are taking a South Africa tour this fall that includes a few days in Cape Town. We added a few more days, but there is so much to do in the area that we are having trouble deciding how to spend our way too limited time. The options include:
- Get to know Cape Town a little better. Our tour includes Table Mountain (the protea should be in bloom!) and Atlantic Seaboard, but more time in both places would be nice. And our tour doesn’t include a visit to Robben Island (which seems sort of essential).
- Luxuriate in the Cape Winelands. We have one day there on our tour, but it would be a lovely place to spend a few days relaxing with great food and wine.
- Wander along the Whale Coast and Garden Route. It will be whale-watching season while we are there, so spectacular scenery would share the spotlight with what is reputed to be the world’s best land-based whale watching.
- Explore the rugged and desolate West Coast. Besides great rock formations and whale watching from the sand dunes, we’d be there about the time to see the desert bloom.
There are just too many options!

Time is running out. We need to make some decisions and book accommodations soon. We might already be too late to find lodging in the best desert flower viewing areas. . . . which would serve to simplify our decision-making!
