Too Many People in the heart of Lima, Peru

Last updated on April 11th, 2024

Time to visit Lima’s historical center, our approach measured by the increasing grandeur of the buildings we pass. . .

It is a holiday weekend and have been oddly empty throughout the day. Now, however, as evening approaches the streets are clogged and the plazas and pedestrian ways area beginning to bustle with activity.

It feels like utter chaos.

I have been planning to spend the evening with my tripod here in Lima’s historic center. There is no way I can do that with the crowds that are funneling into the Plaza Mayor unless I stay here until very, very late. With the cruise ship docked so far from the city center, the logistics seem too difficult (remember, this is a place where the evening doesn’t really begin until 10 p.m.) and I give up on the possibility.

SOMEDAY I am going to spend a week here – or maybe a month (preferably over the holidays) – so I can spend as much time as I want wandering the city and photographing these amazing buildings. . . all day and late into the night.
