The Lake Wobegon Trail runs for 65 miles through central Minnesota between the cities of Saint Joseph and Osakis.
The entire bicycle and pedestrian trail is paved, making for smooth sailing through slightly rolling farmland, meadows, woodlands, and marshes.
Over the weekend I checked out a short section at the west edge of Sauk Centre.
While the official trail head is at the city park, there is also parking available at a couple of other spots near the trail. A few of those are practically at the edge of town.
But, wherever you begin, the trail quickly takes you out into the rural landscape of central Minnesota.
While the view from the trail is mostly peaceful, the first few miles parallel nearby I-94, making it hard to hear the sound of the birds or breeze in the trees.
