Elephant Terrace at Angkor Wat

Last updated on April 30th, 2024

The day is already visibly starting to come to an end when we reach the elephant terrace. I’m not sure why, but I’m still surprised how early the light starts to fade here. Because it is hot and sunny, I keep expecting the long, lingering light of a northern summer evening.

The Elephant Terrace overlooks what was once the royal square and served as part of a grandstand of sorts. The carved line of majestic elephants has worn away over time, but it is still visible.
