We stop by a fountain known as the “car wash” on SW 5th and Ankeny in Portland, Oregon.

Lane thinks this fountain is boring, but I like it.
It was designed by Carter, Hull, Nishita, McCulley and Baxter and installed in 1977. I can’t tell if it is nicknamed the “Car Wash” because there used to be a gas station here (presumably with a car wash) or because it provides a car wash of its own to passing motorists on windy days. It is still today and the fountain seems to be going full force, however, a wind gauge will shut it off on gusty days.
