The Stony Point Road intersects Scenic Highway 61 (the old road, not the new bypass) about 10 miles north of Duluth. It’s a quiet road that lacks big tourist attractions. What it offers instead is a pretty drive and access to a pleasant spot for watching the lake.
Along the way travelers pass the fish houses.
There are two of them here — one increasingly hidden within the surrounding trees and one standing alone in an open area above the beach. They are both sturdy structures, built to protect the nets and other tools of a fisherman’s livelihood through even the fiercest of storms.
Today they are locked tight, apparently no longer maintained or in use, but not really abandoned either.
One of our favorite spots . . .
Then why haven’t you and I managed to coordinate a trip up there?! Can’t believe how long it’s been since I’ve seen you!
