It took me until last summer to discover the rushing waters of Cascade River State Park, but once I did, it became one of my favorite discoveries of the summer.

A lovely (short) trail leads directly into the forest from the side of Highway 61. The trail begins climbing immediately and soon you are alongside the Cascade River – a fast flowing stream that splashes down a series of ledges as it drops 900 feet in the last three miles of its race to Lake Superior.
It’s a lovely sight.
While many of the smaller drops along the Cascade River are easy to get close to, the serious waterfalls are more reclusive.
However, even if you have to enjoy the Cascade River’s bigger falls from a distance, it’s still a lovely sight.
And well worth the short ramble through the woods along the river.
