The guide books all warn drivers on Alberta’s Highway 40 (the Kananaskis Trail) to watch for Rocky Mountain Sheep along the side of the road. Fortunately, one doesn’t have to be looking too hard to see them.
The bigger challenge is keeping one from running through your shot!

I don’t think I would have identified those as sheep.
They are sort of incognito, aren’t they? :-)
I’ve never heard of Rocky Mountain sheep. They look skinny – like goats. But I suppose with a roaming herd, they’d look scraggly. Looks like you’re having quite an adventure. Enjoy!
I had the same reaction. They are losing their winter coats, so they don’t look like the pretty ones you usually see in pictures. . . I think the fact that these have small horns makes them hard to recognize as sheep. I wish we could have spent a lot more time in this area!
We loved these animals when we were in the Rockies. They were mostly looking down on us from the rocks, but come to think of it I thought they were Mountain Goats, lol. Goats are my favourite animal but I am not familiar enough with these to tell the difference.
I kept calling them goats too, because most of them had short thin horns like a goat, but my husband kept reminding me they were just shaggy sheep. We only saw goats once, laying under a bridge, so they didn’t seem as regal as they should have!
