Several times each day we pass by the city’s dramatic city hall.

Each time we stop to admire different aspects of the building and make a visit to the Dragon Fountain (Lane is found of the monsters along the fountain and atop the wall in front of City Hall itself), but we’ve never entered the building itself.

Today we decide to step inside.

There are dramatic flourishes beyond the detailed tile work, including giant carved snakes and stained glass images of the city seal.

There’s no shortage of drama here – most famously in the large courtyard-style main hall.

Despite its semi-medieval appearance, this is a 1905 building – a historical fantasy building, sort of like the courthouse in Santa Barbara. The intricate detailing makes its hard to remember that this is a working building, that the elaborate stairways lead to real offices.
