Spring itinerary for Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico

Spread the word!

(Last Updated On: November 27, 2019)

Spring seemed like the perfect time to head to New Mexico to spend time with a friend.

In the Air

(April 13, 2010)

My departure is delayed, but I got an upgrade for the first time since our return from Dublin, so I’m feeling generous toward Delta anyway.

And I’m headed out to visit a friend who lives in a gorgeous place, so that is also reason to stay cheery.

Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks

hoodoos along the Canyon Trail

(April 14, 2010)

My friend and I begin this morning exactly how we ended last night, with Susan pouring over tax forms and me trying to focus on work. Neither is going well. We decide that Susan will file an extension later today (how hard can that be?) and I will set work aside for awhile so we can go for “a walk.”

Susan is thinking an hour stroll around the neighborhood. I am thinking she should take me to the odd rock formations she told me about yesterday.

Soon we are on the road, headed for Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument. (See the post for the full story and pictures.)

Night in Old Albuquerque

(April 14, 2010)

We end the day with dinner and a walk through Old Town Albuquerque.

The View Down the Street

(April 15, 2010)

We spend the morning – the whole morning – trying to get Susan’s taxes done and off, but finally we are able to step outside into a glorious day.

Best of all, we don’t even have to leave the neighborhood for a pleasant walk!

Santa Fe

The Inn on the Alameda

(April 15, 2010)

We don’t actually get to Santa Fe until 4 p.m., but the Inn on the Alameda turns out to be every bit as lovely and welcoming as I had hoped, with an added room upgrade followed by sangria and snacks once we have settled in.

Canyon Road

Santa Fe is filled with art, but the greatest concentration of galleries and studios is found along Canyon Road. Here traditional adobe buildings serve as artful settings for creations of all types. (See the post for more images.)

I Wouldn’t Mind Living Here

Lounging (April 16, 2010)

There is a large deck off our room and the temptation to just lounge and admire the city from above is too strong to resist.

We opt for a late start on the day.

Old Town Santa Fe

Wandering the Hillsides, Watching for Smoke

The Statehouse

Although I know it is closed, I want to stop when we pass by the statehouse on our way out of town.

Heading South

We skirt along the edge of the storm, but the distant rains make for dramatic scenery.

I’d Rather Look at (Odd) Houses
