We were planning to take our helicopter tour tomorrow, but the rainy weather that has been hanging out off-shore is expected to move inland, so yesterday we moved our flight to this afternoon.
Soon we are being loaded into our (surprisingly small!) helicopter.
We start off flying over the relatively flat coastal area between Lihu’e and our neighborhood in Po’ipu.
Soon we reach the Na Pali coast with its rugged mountains and crystal clear waters – and a whale lingering at the surface just off-shore!
We fly above the perfect crescent of Hanalei Bay. . .
and then around and into the wettest spot in the world, the lush ruined crater of Wai’ale’ale.
Returning to civilization, we pass over ranch land dotted with cows.
Suddenly we are back in Lihu’e.
Our island tour is over.
