We get up early, before sunrise, and head to the high viewpoint at Point Imperial. Point Imperial is the highest point on the north rim at 8,803 feet. From here the walls of Marble Canyon open up to provide a dramatic vista of the east end of the Grand Canyon and the Painted Desert. At this early hour we are basically alone, sharing this amazing vista with the awakening birds. It is cool and dark and peaceful.
The sun rises oh-so-slowly before suddenly becoming bright and hot.
While I am focusing on the brightening canyon, Lane is trying to capture portraits of some of the many little birds that flit around us.
What a beautiful morning!
