The Blue Mosque was built early in the 17th century to rival the Hagia Sophia. Today it remains among the most splendid buildings in a city rich in magnificent architecture.
Today the mosque’s courtyard bustles with activity after the Friday afternoon prayers, but there is peace to be found even here if one just looks.
The mosque gets its nickname from its interior, which includes a ceiling covered in some of the finest Iznik tiles ever produced. The space is serene, calming, and stunningly beautiful.
It is simply exquisite.
